Freedom Cockroach
Horsehair, Cotton Beeswax
15 cm x 75 cm
Horse hair is wrapped in waxed silk and cotton threads and tied using macrame techniques into complex forms. Horse hair was chosen as the primary material due to its specific tensility, as well as the traditional use of horses in art as symbols of liberty and power. Natural fibres contrast with the contextual reality of the material (that it was purchased on Amazon). The hair was shorn from the horse: symbol of pastoral freedom of power, and travelled the vast global supply chain, ending in bondage, forced into artificial shapes through the work of craft, revealing its artifice.

Circles and Squares
Plaster, Acrylic Paint, Pastel
8 cm x 8 cm (Multiples)
I tried to launch a rebellion against deconstructing, breaking down, and I found myself enveloped in a realm of circles. Walking around a point, regarding it, one completes a full rotation, one has seen it from all angles. But even two people traversing the same circle would notice different things, different points of the point. Inspired by the lids of Russian lacquer boxes and the astrolabe, these tiles are a playful imagining of thought, meant to be arranged and rearranged, although there are specific patterns of alignment.

Considering secrecy, musicality and time, these works offer a visualisation of the movement of parts, evoking different whispers of sound and mood. The planks are padded so the weavings jut out softly into the third dimension. On the reverse, each whisper has a corresponding part of an original musical score, The Secret Quintet. Each part can only be understood alongside the other. The secret of the music, not visible or audible, calls into question the nature and value of display. Hidden things contain their own power and beauty. As with those who share a secret, these works are both isolated and bonded.

Golems
Clay, Oil Paint, Paper
Dimensions Variable
These Golems, in the form of birds, carry secrets inside. Made of hollow clay, there is space in the belly of each for a small scroll of paper. The scroll contains a secret, which, when inserted, animates the bird by imbuing it with meaning. If the secret is removed, the bird dies.
